Guiltless Living: Confessions of a Serial Sinner Captured by the Grace of God Book Review

I’d love to help you simplify your meal planning. Check out my new menu planning course here.

Guiltless Living by Ginger Hubbard is a wonderfully transparent story of God's work of grace in our lives as “serial sinners”.  Each area of “serial sin” covered in the book was convicting to read because they were all areas I find myself struggling in – some more than others – but all areas that revealed the wickedness of my own heart and the goodness of a gracious and loving God who has given me new life through Christ and victory over sin.

There are seven areas of “serial sin” covered in the book: Critical sinner, proud sinner, controlling sinner, impatient sinner, miserly sinner, selfish sinner, and religious sinner.  Her definitions of each sinner were pretty accurate.

“Critical Serial Sinner – A fault-finding destroyer of good who chooses to search for bad in people or situations, compulsively voices negativity, and lives in bondage to an ungrateful heart.”  ~ page 18

Can you see yourself as this sinner in certain situations or with certain people in your life?  I appreciated that we were left with no excuse for our sin but brought back to the truths of God's Word and reminded that Jesus was faced with the same temptations and did not sin (Hebrews 4:15).

Ginger's excellent and honest storytelling of the sin in her life will have you at times in tears from laughing while at the same time feeling convicted realizing you too are a sinner in need of grace.  Ginger shares her stories not to make light of her sin but to show the reality that we are helpless in and of ourselves and only by delighting and resting in the love and grace of God can overcome sins lure as she describes, “what once seemed irresistible becomes undesirable.”

This is a book that I devoured in one sitting (120 pages) but will find myself turning to again and again especially in the areas that are more of a struggle for me.

Take the time to watch the video from Ginger and visit her website that is full of some helpful resources.

(If you're viewing this in your email you will have to click through to the blog here to view the video)

“As we set our affections on Jesus, his love weakens sin's lure.  What once seemed irresistible becomes undesirable. The more we commit ourselves to ponder him, worship, him, praise him and talk with him, we will become so full of him that his character oozes from every pore.”
~ Guiltless Living, page 104

"Home is the true wife's kingdom. ⁣ ⁣ Very lar "Home is the true wife's kingdom. ⁣

Very largely does the wife hold in her ⁣
hands, as a sacred trust, the happiness ⁣
and the highest good of the hearts that ⁣
nestle there. In the last analysis, home ⁣
happiness depends on the wife. ⁣
⁣
Her spirit gives the home its atmosphere. ⁣
⁣
Her hands fashion its beauty. ⁣
⁣
Her heart makes its love. ⁣

something of the meaning of her sacred calling."⁣
